INSURANCE COVERAGE

Insurance Coverage

If you submit a claim for damages to your insurer, or the insurer of the person who you claim is responsible for your injury, the insurer will carefully review your policy to determine if you are actually covered. This is one task that cannot be delegated to a machine, and is still performed by a human being. To date, no automated computer program is able to find the answers.

Basic questions that must be answered include, but are not limited to:

  • Who is covered? In some policies, only the named insured is covered. In others, family members or business partners may be covered even if not specifically named.
  • Was the policy in effect at the time of the loss?
  • Does the policy cover the type of loss for the claim that has been submitted or will be submitted?
  • Are there any exclusions that apply?

These are just a few examples. Questions may differ, depending on whether the review is for a homeowner’s policy, a business owner’s policy, or for damages someone suffered in a vehicular accident.
